Purpose of the Role Section 3: PURPOSE OF JOB: This is an entry level position Develop and maintain state-of-the-art engineering tools on high-end computer systems for the modeling of resource allocation and end-to-end communication system performance analysis of the Telesat Lightspeed constellation Assess the performance of the Telesat Lightspeed constellation across various metrics such as throughput, capacity, availability, regulatory compliance and reliability, and study various use cases and scenarios in support of customer deployments.

Section 4: MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate actively in the development of the Telesat Lightspeed System Model software tool using Matlab and possibly other languages along with advanced optimization tools.

Use state-of-the-art modeling techniques and software tools (using Matlab or other script language) to do detailed performance analysis of the Telesat LEO Constellation performance in terms of data throughput, latency, satellite hand-over performance, availability, system capacity and regulatory compliance based on equipment performance specifications and predicted performance.

Interface with other Telesat groups regarding satellite payload and ground segment characteristics, definitions of performance metrics, performance evaluations, and regulatory compliance.

Support detailed studies of system performance validating the concept of operation with respect to the interface between satellite and ground systems.

Write technical documentation.

SECTION 5: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: B.

Sc.

in Electrical, Computer or System Engineering Strong programming skills Advanced Matlab coding skills, including parallel programming is desirable Knowledge of radio communication systems and/or satellite communication is desirable Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Creative problem-solver with thorough attention to detail.

Experience in mathematical optimization including linear programming is desirable Experience in cloud computing is desirable Highly collaborative team-player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates.

Excellent oral and written communication skills An aptitude for and interest in complex technology Fluent in English, written and oral.

SECTION 6: DECISION MAKING & SUPERVISION: Decision Making In this role, the incumbent will issue recommendations and have influence on the system design of the Telesat LEO system and on the software design of the Telesat Lightspeed System Model.

Supervision Exercised This role has no direct reports.

SECTION 7: WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
